QUARRYING at the foot of Mount Polis in Ifugao goes on despite a directive from the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB), said Provincial Board (PB) presiding officer and Vice Governor Glen Prudenciano on Monday.

Prudenciano said the Provincial Government could not entirely put a stop to quarrying activities at Mount Polis as there remains a deficiency in alternative livelihood programs for residents who depend on quarrying as their source of income.
He said the only remedy initiated by the Provincial Government at the moment is banning the use of heavy equipment in quarrying activities. “No massive excavations are done,” he said, adding that activities are done only by residents in the area. (more…)
